S. V. Phatak Library & M. S. Pendharkar Reading Room (Since 1925)

The library has a collection of over 40,000 books in Marathi, English, Hindi and Sanskrit. In addition, 'Suhas Gajanan Kelkar Children Section' of the library stocks about 5000 books of children's interest. There is a separate reading room section where dailies; weeklies, monthlies & periodicals are made available. More than 4500 members take advantage of the library facilities.

Apart from catering to the needs of the reading public, the library organizes literary meets, publication ceremonies, seminars on literary developments, etc. The whole idea is to inculcate and develop reading habit among the people, arouse people's thirst for knowledge, facilitate research by making available reference books, and cater to the different literary tastes of the reading public. The working of the library is fully computerized. There is also a separate section of Audio cassettes library.



The library was recently adjudged the best Public Library in the State and was decorated with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Award by the Govt. of Maharashtra.
