Extention and Expansion of the Building |
More and more activities demanded more and more space. The institution therefore acquired plots of land on the north & West Side of the Tilak Mandir. A plot admeasuring about 9000 Sq.ft. area on the western side was reserved as open ground. The remaining land was used for the expansion of the building. The construction of different halls requires huge funds. The halls were named after the donors as a mark of appreciation & gratitude for their generous donations, which enabled the Sangh to go in for the expansion. The expansion of the building was not done at one stretch. The first expansion came in 1935. The highlight of that extension was accommodating Krishnabai Limaye Gymnasium on the ground floor & Gokhale Sabhagriha of about 6000 Sq.ft. on the first floor. Gokhale hall has a sitting capacity of nearly 1000 peoples. In 1962 additional construction of 6000 Sq.ft. was completed on the plot on the northern side. The highlight of that new construction was provision of Sathe Hall on the ground floor & Tilak hall on the first floor. Over the Tilak hall & the balcony of the Gokhale hall, another hall with shorter height was built for the library and the reading room.
In 1971 the institution got permission to raise one more floor on the building. The donation received from P.L. Deshpande Foundation was used for construction of P.L. Deshpande hall of about 6000 Sq.ft. and Indirabai Kale Hall of 500 Sq.ft. on the third floor of the Tilak Mandir.
With this expansion, Tilak Mandir had at its disposal about 20,000 Sq.ft. of constructed area for its multi-farious activities. However, even this space was too small for the new projects undertaken by the Sangh. The institution was on a lookout for additional suitable plot of land. Shri Mohanrao Nadkarni, a socially conscious senior citizen of Vile-Parle offered as a donation to the Sangh his plot of land of five and half thousand Sq.ft. with structure standing thereon. The Sangh developed this plot & built a four-storied building of 8500 Sq.ft. The building is obviously named after Mohanrao Nadkarni as 'Nadkarni Child Welfare Centre'. This building also houses Radhabai Phadnis Bal Mandir, Disha Karna-Badhir Vidyalaya (School for the Deaf and Dumb) and Dr. Kalbag Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Disabled.
The Sangh has been very fortunate to receive an unbatted support of selfless, devoted workers ever since it's inception. This flow of voluntary workers is uninterrupted even to this day when the general feeling around is that the people are becoming more and more self-centered. The Sangh has also many novel ideas and ambitions in mind to develop and expand the scope of activities undertaken by it towards its goal of social upliftment. This will obviously become feasible provided the Sangh continuous ti receive the financial support in the days ahead. Of course based on its experience spanning over last eight decades, the Sangh has full confidence on the generocity of the people and enthusiasm of the devoted workers to further this noble cause. Support from the masses towards this noble cause is whatever form possible is always welcome. The Sangh looks forward to welcome everybody to contribute his humble mite in this ' Seva Yadnya'.
